The President of the General Assembly met on 31 January 2017 with the President of the Security Council for the month of February 2017, H.E. Mr. Volodyrnyr Yelchenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations.
The Permanent Representative of Ukraine briefed the President of the General Assembly on the Security Council's provisional Programme of Work for February 2017. He underscored that the focus of the month would be the two open debates, one on threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts: protection of critical infrastructure, on 13 February 2017, which will be chaired by H.E. Mr. Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and the second on maintenance of international peace and security: conflicts in Europe, on 21 February 2017, which will be held at Ministerial level. A draft resolution related to the first Open Debate is currently being negotiated.
The President said, the Security Council will hear a briefing from OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, H.E. Sebatian Kurz,Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria. In addition, the to issues such as counter terrorism, Iraq, Libya, Coted'Ivoire,Sudan,CAR, Middle East including Syria, Guinea Bissau, DPRK sanction, and Kosovo.
Among other issues talked about are;the dangerous deterioration of the situation in the eastern Ukraine,United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 in June 2017
